Is it Enough?

It’s hard to believe the kids are starting their second month of school today.  It seems like we were just going back-to-school shopping… But, as they rushed around this morning, getting themselves ready to head out the door, I found myself wondering, is it enough?

I wasn’t thinking about the clothes they were wearing, or the supplies they were stuffing into their backpacks.  Nope.  Thankfully, those items are well-stocked so I don’t worry about those so much.

Instead, what really makes me stop dead in my tracks from time-to-time is when I think about everything that the world throws at them.

Every.  Single.  Day.

Parenting Before the Storm

Last weekend, Brad and I were asked to participate in a parenting class at church. The topic was Parenting Elementary School Children with a focus on relationships. We are definitely not experts on the matter. But, as we have one who has passed that stage, and one almost through, we certainly have experience!

When Brad and I first started talking about what we wanted to share, he immediately came up with the title, The Calm Before the Storm. I thought that was absolutely perfect. In elementary school, our kids still accepted us as the authority figures, and there really wasn’t that much backlash. Not that it’s been easy easy, but it hasn’t been as difficult as other stages have been and those I fear are coming…

The Sliminess of Sin…

So, I just lost an hour of my life.  Plus, my hands smell like vinegar.  I’m not really in my happy place right now…

As it turns out, slime and carpets – don’t mix.  Actually, they do – very well.  In fact, they mix so well that when the slime dries, it pretty much becomes one with the carpet.  In order to separate the two, you need an hour of your time, (at least), a whole lot of vinegar, and a nonstop prayer listing all the reasons you find joy in your daughter… (I think I need to re-read my post on finding joy…)

Of course, the slime didn’t “come right up!” as the happy faces on YouTube told me it would.  But, with some elbow grease and the right supplies, I think the carpet will at least be passable.
